I know there has to be a way to do this. Google only seems to turn up solutions _IF_ the bios supports booting USB devices.
Note: This BIOS does
NOT support booting USB devices!
Here is my hardware configuration:
Compaq Armada E500 with onboard floppy and cd burner. NEC USB 2.0 pcmcia adapter with a USB DVD burner attached.
Now, here is what I want to do:
I have a distro (RR4) that I want to install, but it only comes in a DVD iso image. Using the onboard floppy and/or cd burner, how can I boot the USB DVD so that I can install my fav distro onto my internal HDD?
I see that brianbdl gives a very general how-to on this topic here --->
Code:
linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=396584
(sorry for the code brakets but forums wouldnt let me post otherwise)
but I need detailed instructions on how to make the initrd, kernel, and EXACTLLY what modules I need because keep in mind that I am needing USB(to boot the device), ext3(desired filesystem of the HDD), squashfs(LiveDVD filesystem), and others, im sure.
Thanks for any help.
cheers
