Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Bluetooth usb adapter

Hi,

I'm using Kubuntu 20.04 LTS with kernel 5.4. I have this Bluetooth usb adapter. I installed driver from here, as this company has an adapter with the same chip (RTL8761B). At first it didn't work, then I tried disabling secure boot and it worked. Is it safe? If not, is it possible to make this work with secure boot? Kernel update? Or is it because of the driver?

Anyway, if you have any recommendations on Bluetooth chip that works with kernel 5.4 that would be great.

Thanks

So turning off secure boot fixed the problem?

I personally never allow secure boot to be active. It has interfered with different things in linux (kernels, drivers, installation of some releases, etc) and turning it off usually fixes those issues.

Secure boot is only a windows tool and should not be of any concern for linux users if it is disabled. It appears to me to be an attempt by Microsoft working with the BIOS writers to make certain their machines can only boot with windows. That should never be accepted.
