bluetooth stopped working, reports kernel error

bluetooth stopped working after I booted into kernel 6.4.1 for the first time. It kept on not-working when I booted into 6.4.0, so that must not be it. I get an error when I run bluetoothctl:
Quote:
[ 5905.761214] bluetoothd[2957]: segfault at 20 ip 0000000000425a2a sp 00007ffe64bbf2f0 error 4 in bluetoothd[40c000+bd000] likely on CPU 1 (core 1, socket 0)

I hope it's a defective adaptor - I bought a cheap generic off the Bay of e. I just ordered a new one. Can someone recommend a reliable brand?

Later:
I remembered I have an old bluetooth adaptor, retired I know not why. It gives the same error. The error migrates between location, program (always bluetooth), and CPU.

One I bought was plug and play in blueman with kernel 5.10

Here is the list I picked it from

https://www.addictivetips.com/ubuntu...ooth-adapters/

I found 1 eveo 5.1 bluetooth dongle that was plug and play on kernel 5.10 that was listed as only being windows compatible.
But that listing is gone.

Here is the readout on this dell laptop bluetooth. It is internal

Code:
harry@biker:~
$ inxi -E
Bluetooth:
Device-1: Dell DW375 Bluetooth Module driver: btusb type: USB
Report: hciconfig ID: hci0 state: up address: 1C:65:9D:02:31:7F bt-v: 2.0
It works with blueman.

It started working this morning, perhaps after I upgraded the bluez package. A few other packages upgraded but don't seem relevant.
