Bluetooth profiles.

Are Bluetooth profiles hardware dependent, say if I had two could different Bluetooth adaptors both Bluetooth 2.0 +edr. Is there any chance one of them might support a2dp and the other might not support it? (Maybe this can happen with other profiles?)
