Bluetooth "Adapter" Compatibility

Hi all,

i have just got a smartphone (Nokia 3230), and i would like to get a USB bluetooth adapter for my PC so that i can transfer files to and from the phone.

A few rather n00b questions:

- Might there be compatibility issues? i.e. certain brands and model of bluetooth adapters work with Linux and certain don't?

- After i get the bluetooth adapter to work, how do i connect to the smart phone? Can i "mount the phone" like normally mounting a USB drive, and do normal copying to and from the mount location?

- Nokia's PC suite (for installing applications on the phone) only has a Windows version. I know there is probably little hope for me, but is there an alternative Linux application that can install Symbian and J2ME applications to the phone?

TIA and Regards,
Edwin

1. Yes there might be compatibility issues. Try and head for a name brand like Dlink and you shouldn't have any problems.

2. Yes and no. Konqueror + kdebluetooth can access a Bluetooth device using OBEX as though it was a mounted device. On the other hand if you like things a little lighter and don't feel like installing KDE just to access your phone, I use FUSE + obexfs which is pretty much the same.

3. You shouldn't need a program on the PC to install something on the phone, just copying the .sis file to the device and then running it from the menu on the phone should work.
