Black Screen On Booting On GeForce 3 With Nvidia Detonator Drivers On Mandrake 10.0

Hello Everyone!

I have a small problem with my latest nvidia drivers... I'm using Ge Force 3 Ti500 graphics board. When booting/rebooting or even just restarting the X server, my screen turns black. And nothing is happening for 5-7 minutes, after that X server starts, kde is starting and all other thins working just fine....

What is wrong? What should i do to correct this? I hate waiting, especially when booting my machine :) I don't have any other problems so far, just this damn empty black screen......

Waiting for reply..
Thanks

Similar problem here with my GeForce FX5200 and Mandrake 10.0 Official (6) CD set. If you can get your hands on the 10.0 Community, it might temporarily solve your problem.

I don't know if its the kernel (2.6.3-4 in Community vs. 2.6.3-7 in the Official) or the way the XF86Config-4 file is written --- but I have the 10.0 Community running for a few days now and * it works *.

I have read over in a MandrakeClub "install" forum that the XF86Config-4 file can be patched, but I haven't tried it yet.

By the way - I never waited 5 to 7 minutes when I had a black screen. I think I might have waited 2 minutes each time I got the black screen?? So maybe I could have the exact same (not similar) problem. But I am more impatient than you and had to see my computer boot in ~30 seconds EVERY time.

Good luck.

This seems like a framebuffer problem with the geforce framebuffer driver.

Did you try booting with the "-nonfb" lilo option? It should give you at least some "text only" output until the X server starts.

Hey!
I have made some modifications in XF86Config-4 file. I've added two lines:
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT"
Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "DFP, TV"
and now black screen is gone.... the driver was probably searching for possible TV and other monitor... but why it took so much time? ....anyway, i don't have to wait for 5minutes anymore, it's starting right away :)
