Black Screen after monitor change
I just installed RHAS 3 U3. During the installation, I had a flatpanel monitor(Veiwsonic VA912b) attached. The installation was successful with no problems.
After the install, I disconnected the flatpanel and attached a CRT (Viewsonic G771). Now, when I boot up, I see the boot process but as soon as X is started the CRT screen is black (you can see some refresh going on but in general it's all black). How can I get to a shell (bypass X) and reconfigure X for the CRT? Thanks for any help. ebg |
Wait a few minutes (no need to boot into runlevel 3).
Press the three key combo of Ctrl+Alt+F1 Log on as root (supply the password when promted) Type; init 3 Run; redhat-config-xfree86 Test; startx If happy, exit the GUI session type; init 5 Go back to the console screen (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and logout, press the three key combo of Ctrl+Alt+F7 to get back to the GUI screen. |
Thanks for the "CTRL-ALT-F1" key combo, it worked fine. I was told the combo was "CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE", but that did not work.
Ok. After I run /usr/bin/redhat-config-xfree86 the screen goes blank again with no results. CTRL-C gets me back to a prompt. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong? Thanks for any help. |
Disregard my last post. Solution found.
I ran '/usr/bin/redhat-config-xfree86 --reconfig' and it re-probed my video card and monitor. Thank you for the help. |
