Bizarre input lag with Radeon 9200 and ATI drivers

I'm using Mandrake 10.0 with the 2.4 kernel and 3.9.0 ATI drivers (Radeon 9200). Everything seems to work fine (high fps on fgl_glxgears, fglrxinfo and glxinfo looking the way it should), but the input is lagged (when running flg_glxgears and glxgears the mouse moves choppily, in games like ET the keyboard input and response to it is also lagged). Besides the input it all seems to work fine. This didn't hapen with the 2.6 kernel, but then again the 2.6 kernel froze my system.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I wonder, can this be an indicator of bad 3D acceleration? If so, how can I check/debug it?
