best system for linux

I have an already sick system, but it is not very linux friendly. Meaning that the hardware has issues with the linux os. I like my system its strong and fast, but I have problems working certain os's on it like linuxmint (or anything other than old ubuntu 10.04, and opensuse 12.2). I think most of my problem comes from my motherboard its an MSI P67-C43 (MS-7673). I was looking at the ASUS P6X58D, but I was unsure if I would run into the same problem(s). I also have the GeForce GTX 460 v2, and since I am upgrading my motherboard and i7 I figured I may as well upgrade that as well; what is a better video card that I can use?
Thank you

Better for what?
You don't give us even the slightest hint what you intend the system to be used for, so we can't give any reasonable recommendation.
From tghe little information you have given us, "upgrading" the newer socket LGA1155 system to the older socket LGA1366 system doesn't make much sense, except you want to have a six core CPU, but in this case upgrading to socket LGA2011 would make much more sense.

sorry

I'm sorry, allow me to go into a bit more detail. I have an MSI MSI P67-C43 (MS-7673) board now, and since I installed it I have had a hard time installing or using pretty much any linux system except opensuse and ubuntu 10.4. I would like to use linuxmint or experiment with backtrack some more. I am wanting to make a few games and I would like to make sure the data base is closed from most eyes as possible to make the game more fun than just some hacked piece. The reason I would like to linuxmint along with opensuse and backtrack is its ease of use and ability to be modified to the users setups a little easier than opensuse (which is still great). The problem I keep having is the black screen, and having to work around that every time I want to try and use a different os, or with backtrack I can only work in virtualbox (which is limited to its full potential). It's been a bit since I have tried to install any other os's on my system so it's hard for me to give exact details to their excuse as to not want to work on it. I will try again in a few and post my results here.
I would also like to start making web pages for some people and at the same time keep them secure (the reason for backtrack, security) on top of making the video games.
Thank you

Oh and another I really have no idea what is the best hardware to use, the internet is full of junk. I would rather have intelligent people give their opinion as to what is the best and why.

So, what I get from your point is that you are having a problem with blackscreens during boot of newer distro versions. This is most likely caused by the nouveau driver for your videocard. Black screens usually happen when the videodriver can't determine the correct settings (resolution and refresh rate) for your monitor.

To fix this you have two (maybe three) options:
1. Boot the system with nomodeset kernel option and install the Nvidia driver. If you want to program 3D videogames you might want to install that driver anyways.
2. Replace the videocard. I wouldn't consider that an option, the GTX460 is fast enough for any recent game at least with medium quality settings, so replacing it would mostly be waste of money.
3. Possible third solution: Try it with a different monitor.

As neither mainboard nor CPU seem to be connected to your issues replacing them does not make much sense.

Thank you very much,
The answer was very helpful. I will do this (nomodeset) with linuxmint.

nomodeset did not work. I think I will try another monitor, mines an lg flatron ew224. Any suggestions as to the best make and model to get for a good 3d monitor?
Thank you

No experience with those, so I can't recommend anything, sorry.
