You've been able to play DVDs, CDs, use data CDs and DVDs in all this time?
Where can I get one?!

I certainly have - I use ebuyer in the UK - I just logged in and found the original order from 2005 (see attached image)! Unfortunately that drive no longer exists, but there is a faster version available. Not bad for £27 and 10 years of continued service
I finally received my Plextor PX-891SAW drive and I've been putting it through its paces. I must say I can't find anything wrong with this drive at all. Some commented on Amazon that it was noisy at high-speed copying, for me I found it to be one of the quietest drives I've ever worked with. It is excellent for ripping audiobooks which I need to do is I listen to them through Logitech Media Server. But the best of all as cold with a set of DVDs of the X-Files that unfortunately I found some of the discs in their unreadable. Too late to take them back. They would not play on the DVD player or any drive on the computer. On the Plextor they read perfectly.
Thank you everyone for your help and your suggestions.
