Benq 4300 S2W scanner installation

Hi,
i did a search here, but found no references to this scanner so here goes:

I have a Benq 4300 S2W Flatbed USB scanner.
When i tried to install it, the system told me it had found an "Acer" type, but after configuring it, it didnt work.

My OS is Mandrake ver 8.2.

On searching Benq's website, i find that they have no drivers for Linux and have no future plans to develope one either - hmmm!

I also have done some searches around the web, but because im a total newbie at this Linux thingy, i'm totally at a loss as to what to do - i have found some references to "LAME" etc - but havnt a clue as to what its all about.

PS - i did manage to install my Lexmark Z52 printer though - he he!!

While i'm at it, i also have an USB Logitech ClickSmart 420 camera - cough cough - that needs installing

Peace

have you tried looking for the SANE backends?

Acer changed their name to BenQ.

Often many scanners use the same chipsets, so often a driver for one model/make is also the one to use for others as well.

Most scanner manufacturers are evil suckers for M$ and so don't write linux drivers. Go to the SANE site to see weather your's is supported...

Hope this helps!

Well, it seems i didnt have to worry at all. After installing Mandrake 9.1 it found my scanner with no problems and works very well indeed.

Lets see if i can get my camera to work now

Peace
