Belkin KVM not working with usb mouse and keyboard ports

I'm trying to set up a new Dell machine with openSUSE 11.1 and KDE 4. For the rest of my PCs I use a Belkin kvm that connects the mouse and keyboard into PS/2 ports and it works. However, the new Dell doesn't have PS/2 ports and I can't get the machine to detect the mouse and keyboard (at all) unless I plug them in directly.

I'm using a Belkin four-port kvm, model number F1DJ104P. Does anyone know of a driver I could download to my Dell PC that would detect the devices via the kvm? The Belkin web site seems to be in pieces and is absolutely no use.

Alternatively, since I'm not particularly attached to the kvm, can anyone suggest a kvm switch that I could buy instead? It would have to have a minimum of four ports and be able to handle both Windows and Linux (all flavours with both OSs) machines, with both usb and PS/2 ports for mouse and keyboard. If it could handle audio, then that would be an improvement on what I've got already.

This isn't too obscure a set-up, is it?

Are you using a ps2 to usb adapter to connect the kvm to the Dell computer? I am a little confused.

I have a IOGear 4 port PS/2 KVM switch that also has problems using a USB to PS/2 converter. It is not the switch that is causing the problem. Linux is causing the problem when it automatically detects USB HID devices. For me the USB to PS/2 connectors is a secondary connection that is hooked up to my notebook computer, so I have it disconnected before booting into Linux.

All the software to control USB keyboards and USE mice is in the kernel. The best way to fix it is write up a patch for the kernel.

I suggest build a computer that contains PS/2 connectors for both a keyboard and mouse.

ConnectGear UG104 is a possible KVM that might work. Another possible KVM that might work is IOGear GCS1734. Basically picking a KVM switch and picking input devices is a trial-n-error process

Yes. The Dell doesn't detect the devices if I do this. It doesn't detect PS/2 devices connected directly to the machine via an adaptor either. The only way I've got it working so far is connecting USB devices directly.

That's why I want advice. I don't want to be paying out large sums of money for a "solution" that turns out not to work.
