beeping monitor

when i go to turn on my linux machine it seems like the machines boots but all i hear is a constant beeping........it is a sony trinitron e210. the display is pitch black.

Are you sure its the monitor and not the PC? The post beep code of same length beeps and pauses means bad memory. You will not have any video at this step in the post and the drives should spin up.

Do you have another monitor that you could test the system with?

i installed a new graphics card just the other day.....it behaved the way you just explained, except it beeped a short while then stopped......monitor blank also.

my card wasn't properly seated in its slot......i seated it properly and it worked. try that.

if i don't turn on my pc and only the moniter it still beeps i tested it with a different moniter and it still works.....
