Barebones Server
I'm considering leasing a barebones dedicatd server running Red Hat 9 (I believe) for six to eight months - then upgrading. The specs are pretty slim so I was curious what performance might be. I'll being hosting eight websites and email for those eight domains. Only one (or two) will be database intensive. The rest will be static HTML. I would expect hundreds of hits a day, not thousands. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Here she is... 128 MB RAM, 4 GB HD, PII 233 Mhz (At least, possibly faster) Also, is it possible to run ASP.Net on Redhat? If so, how do you think that would effect preformance on this box? Thanks! |
go for 1000mhz or more you are talking less than $200

I am upgrading from a Pentium 100 with 80 MB RAM. The old PC ran almost all static HTML pages. The upgraded is running PHP and MySQL. So far it seems to be as snappy as the connection will allow. Is there a really huge price difference? A difference that is big enough to configure the PC twice? Getting everything dialed in is no small task. |
