Bad Blocks - RH9 install fails.

Hi,

I restarted my computer a few days ago and it said something to the effect of there being bad blocks or messed up inodes. I ran fsck to fix it as I was advised by the computer. Now the file system is so messed up, I cant get the computer to boot at all. I tried re-installing the RH9 distro, tried re-partitioning and reformatting and re-installing. The installation process auto-quits at random times.

I assumed that there was a problem with the drive. I went ahead and tried to install on a brand new hd and the SAME thing is happenning.

Is there something wrong with hardware other than HD?

Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

Thanks.

I checked the installation media. It's fine. All CD's check out.
Also, the install fails at different points. Sometimes it makes it to the point where packages are being installed. other times it auto-quits before that.

the only reason I'm suspecting a hardware issue is that the problem started before I even tried the reinstall. The computer was acting funny, certain programs wouldn't load.

But I will try a different CD this evening.

I tried using other install media. I am getting the same fatal errors. This doesn't make any sense. I have tried this on two hard drives one of which is brand new. Anybody have any idea what the root of this could be???
