Question Backtrack only displaying in corner of screen [720 x 576 (5:4)]

Hi there, I have searched the internet for answers to this and found nothing, and would be extremely grateful if someone could help me, in plain english as I am a very new to linux.

I have installed backtrack 5 via a live CD, the installation went fine, apart from the fact that it only dispays in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
When I go into monitor preferences the only resolution on offer is 720 x 576 (5:4).

The laptop is a Acer Aspire 7520 with a amd 64 athlon x2
I have included an imaage in the link below.
