B450 AM4 motherboard compatibility with Linux
Ordered for the new build a cheap Asus Prime B450-Plus motherboard, CPU is Ryzen 5 2600X.
My intention is to install also a Ubuntu-based distribution (i.e. Kubuntu/KDE Neon or Linux Mint) but looking now at the specs the manufacturer give only Windows compatibility.
Since looking shortly at other B450 mobo such as the Tomahawk I didn't find either any official Linux support I was wondering if I need to care and there are B450 mobo with official Linux support (meaning I need to change my order as soon as possible before is shipped) or any mobo will work.

Looking at it's spec's here the only thing that might be a problem from what I've read here at LQ, is the Ryzen processor. Generally speaking AMD are pretty good with Linux and do from what I know provide at least reasonable support for Linux. And the link below seems to suggest that people are running Linux Mint 19 with that hardware.

Thanks jsbjsb001 this is a good news.
I was searching for other using this mobo with Linux but wasn't able to find anything.
Did you know if Ram will have any influence in the compatibility with Linux? I have ordered a non-QVL 2x16GB kit.

It doesn't matter what type of RAM it has as far as I know. And I've never heard of Linux being "incompatible" with a certain type of RAM before. So I wouldn't even worry at all about that.

Maybe the cpu?
I've had the same problem with the asus board so I tried a Asrock B450M pro with the same ryzen 3 3200G but still getting the same problem the install page loads from the thumbdrive and then at random points it throws up "unable to open file" errors and then the installer crashes. this happens with several flavours of linux and since the motherboard, processor and ram are new and it happens on two different boards I'm being forced to the conclusion the cpu is faulty. anyone have any ideas about this? please

I recently built Linux mint 20 desktop. I used a Ryzen 5 3400G and Motherboard: MSI Tomahawk max with no issues. I also installed a Samsung 970 m.2 drive. From my research for the build you have to update the bios for some AMD CPU's. I decided not to use the Ryzen 3 after I seen issues with it.

Often the bios on the mobo can be an issue for new boards. Linux should have no problems with the cpu or memory but the board manages both and sometimes the management breaks things.

I have had no problems with 3 different Asus laptops over the past few years. My current one is is the best. Model GL731
Can't say anything about desktops though since I build my own there, and have yet to try a Ryzen processor.
