Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Any chance you came across this thread??
LOL, doesn't look good. However, Google seems to return a fair number of threads about that card. If I see something useful, I'll post that too.
I suggest get a better sound card and that actually works in Linux. I suggest sound cards based on VIA (Envy) ICE1724 or C-Media (Oxygen) CMI8788. Though the VIA ICE1724 seems to have better support in Linux than C-Media CMI8788.
i m afraid buying a new card is not an option...i spent 230euros for this one, its great and all, but its way too much money just for good sound.
i guess i ll wait :/
Perhaps I have missed the obvious, but entertain me: That card, is it a plug-in card?
IF so, any chance you can use your onboard device for the time being? Or-- is there NO onboard sound on your motherboard?

thanks guys
Return it and get a sound card that is based on the DSP chips that I suggested.
My Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 cost about $90 (USD). Over here in the US the AuzenTech Auzen X-Fi Prelude cost $175. You should have checked the prices thoroughly around your area. I found UK on-line stores that sells the same sound card that cost half as much euros that you paid.
It is very unlikely that Creative Labs will be nice to provide documentation to the open source community. Creative Labs drivers for Linux are OSS from 4Front Technologies.
I suggest invest in an amplifier that uses optical or coaxial hook up. It will still produce the same quality.
BTW, Some people invest thousands to get the best sound quality. They even go as far buying audio cable that costs $1000 for a length of 12 feet (3.7 meters).
Thanks for the feedback, but i cant return the card since i own it for a few months. Moreover, when i was looking for a decent sound card, the only ones i could order from decent shops in GR (with free shipping, good RMA and such) were prelude and creative fatality.
Prelude in the UK costs ~100 pounds +VAT +shipping, so basically its the same price
HIfi, amps etc are good but they cost way too much money for my budget.
Thanks again though, i ll have to wait for auzens official drivers in a few months :/
I have the same card as KoMMz & am a total to Linux.
Just started with Ubuntu 8.04 & would love to get it running with sound.
ALSA seems to be still in the system & i'm having troubles fixing it
Any help on how you managed it KoMMz would be greatly appreciated.
Communicatation in small words with LOTS of pointless detail required .... Windows educated fool here
