automatic new monitor detection for redhat 9

Hello,

I have changed my machine's monitor from hp 2035 to Samsung Syncmaster 710v.
As expected, RH9 could not start X windows. I rebooted to runlevel 3, went to /etc/X11/, run "redhat-config-xfree86", a floating message pop-up "Not optimum mode Recommended 1024x768 60Hz". Looks like this is a message given by Samsung monitor...

How can I fix this problem? Is there any other altenative way to solve??

Anyone has Samsung Syncmaster 710v XF86Config's Section "Monitor" configuration?
Will the problem fixed by setting the configuration correctly at Section "Monitor"?

You need the horizontal and vertical refresh rates
you can setup these in the file u mentioned
I got some specifications for the above from this link
http://www.memoryexpress.com/index.p...ProductID=4883

also I do not remember the command for redhat 9 but try running

xf86setup or xf86config

regards

Hello masand, thanks! I got some configuration info from the web(as shown below), set it and managed to boot into X window. Double check with the site you have mentioned, the HorizSync and VertRefresh are almost the same. . Maybe Section "Screen" is not needed, but for safety purpose, I set the screen resolution to 800x600, and refined it later in X window display wizard

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "LCD Panel 1280x1024"
DisplaySize 340 270
HorizSync 31.0 - 80.0
VertRefresh 56.0 - 75.0
Option "dpms"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 16
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection
