The mount point should actually exist before the mount takes place. I recommend creating an empty directory of that name.
The fstab line should contain the UUID of the partition you are mounting.
Is encryption involved that prevented automounting, or only permissions? IF only permission then this should suffice. If encryption then there are additional parameters needed.

I used information in this article to create new mount point (as recommended) and to successfully edit fstab.
Rebooted system, all good, HDD2 now auto-mounts.
