I've just the same problem with a vortex au8810. I compiled a kernel with the alsa-modules and I've merged alsa-libs and alsa-utils (gentoo).
And I tried to listen some music. It worked. Amazing.
But when I rebooted the next day there wasn't anything working :(
I haven't changed anything so I really don't understand
