audio problems...
I have an on-board sound card and it will not work...iv gone to the manufacures site and download the latest drivers and older drivers and its in the tar.gz file extention and when i type gunzip cmedia4.03.tar.gz it says "not in gzip format" how the hell do i install the drivers??? PLEEEZZZ HELP!

it maybe a zip/bzip or plain tar or something, type...
file cmedia4.03.tar.gz
...to see what it is.

when i type file cmedia4.08.tar.gz it says GNU tar archive... how do i get the drivers installed?

tar xvzf cmedia4.03.tar.gz
cd cmedia4.03 (ah whatever directory the untar'ring creates, usually the name of the file, not necessarily)
./configure
make
make install
depmod -a
probably... best to just read the readme.
What cmedia chipset is this, usually its covered by the cmpci module. What does /sbin/lspci say about the "Multimedia device"

if it's a tar archive you should use...
tar xvf cmedia4.03.tar.gz
(no gunzipping)
