audio on intel915GAV still not working

Hi ,
I am new to linux,

I am still unable to configure sound on my machine.

Intel 915GAV motherboard
Ram : 512MB
Linux - Fedora core 3
kernel - 2.6.12
Alsa driver - latest 1.0.9

Steps :
-------

1) Compiled the new kernel 2.6.12 and in the kernel configuration added Alsa as module

2) Compiled Alsa lib, oss, utils, driver latest version 1.0.9

3) after this, I executed the command
root#alsaconf

It showed 2 drivers, HDA-INTEL was one of them. I seleted this option. It asked for modification of modprobe.conf file, for which I agreed.

4) then executed the command
root#service alsasound restart

it gave an error message saying, "snd-hda-intel module not found"

Though am able to hear the sound events, which is configured to beep while opening and closing of application on the Xwindows. Audio CDs/MP3 do not play. I have increased the audio volume with alsamixer, even then I don't hear any thing.

Can anyone help me solve this problem.
thanx

you have to select the correct audio device in your programs. And also, there is an automatic install for the fedora core 3 on the intel site.

I have the same chipset and I made it work on ubuntu. But some application doesn't produce any sound b'cause they aren't well configured, that's all.

If the intel automatic installation doesn't work, look for a topic like this one posted before yours.

Hey Adrislayer, remember me?

Got my soundcard working as well. I updated bunzip and extracted the same alsa-driver and ./configure, make, make install went as expected. There was no more "missing" files. Although I have sound now, it is extremely soft. I tried all the threads etc, but nothing. Posted in Ubuntuforums as well... Hope you can help me out.

Apologies sathwik, I cannot help you much, but I hope adrislayer could pay special attention now!

Hi, I don't know what I can do for you...

I have sound and it work fine, it isn't soft at all, and the quality is fine as well.

What I can advice you is perhaps go into ubuntu guide (unofficial) and check out the point about "how to make the sound work" it's in the lasts subjects...

http://ubuntuguide.org/

I did it and nothings changed, but it can change something for you.

Just now I'm in windows to make a backup of my entire system and I will try the new version of gentoo, the 2005.1. I have printed the manual, it doesn't seems to be so complicated to install...

sorry not being able to help you out.

By the way, I suppose you already change settings on alsamixer by typing

Code:
alsamixer
If you havn't done this, do so, it can be helpful.

Alsa if you want, here's my email and msn adress: adrislayer@msn.com but I don't think I can help you a lot...

PS: this can help you out:
