Audio interface for Ardour 2

Hey folks,

I am looking to start some recording soon, and I am in need of some advice regarding audio interfaces. Things I need/don't need:

Firewire. USB won't cut it. (attached question: I am using a PCI-E card for my firewire...is that going to hog resources from my PCI bus?)

4 or less inputs. I don't need a whack of them, because I can't even fit 4 people into this room.

Something cost-effective. Doesn't have to be top of the line, but it can't suck. Middle of the road works fine for me.

Obviously, works well with Ubuntu Studio and associated programs.

Thats about all I can think of. I'm not really knowledgeable in this area (yet), so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Justin

I just bought the Edirol UA-25 ... which is USB for quite cheap (2 inputs).

There is a red sister-model which is pretty much the same but runs on Firewire instead .. the FA-66.

There are drivers for Mac and Windows XP/Vista ... it worked fine for me in Ubuntu Studio without me having to do anything but plug it in and change over to USB-Audio in the System settings.

You might want to give Audiophile 2496 a try. It's a PCI card. 5 minutes to install under ubuntu studio.
