Audigy 2 NX USB soundcard always mute

I have a laptop with a AC97 integrated soundchip. My Audigy 2 NX USB is plugged in ok, /proc/asound/cards lists it. I have tried to disable the mainboard soundcard renaming the relevant .ko modules, and even if the NX is listed as the only sound card, it's still with the mute led on, as if it's not loaded and no sound is coming out of it. All the mixers aren't muted on it. I'm running Ubuntu 5.04. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I assume you're using ALSA.

Does the card showup in alsamixer? like... if you do alsamixer -c audigy (or whatever the name of your card is)
do you get a mixer with the correct title?

If not, does it show up in lsusb?

Do you have all the correct usb sound modules compiled in or modprobed?
