I know its the gamers card of choice in Windows, but what about Linux?

That is loads of crap. Using electroyte capacitors are not very good with audio which that sound card is using through out its audio paths. I have a Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1. It has real ADC and DAC unlike Creative Labs cards. The DSP chip on the Audigy 2 ZS is programmed to simulate ADC and DAC chips, so it will miss a lot of audio transients. The stated SNR is wrong on the Audigy 2 ZS.
In Linux there is no EAX or sound card acceleration. Well if you think hardware accelleration is hardware mixing. Yes, Linux has that if the sound card has it. You will not be able to get the Firewire connection working on the Audigy 2 ZS. I suggest getting a basic sound card like Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. I also have the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. It works very well.
