Audigy 2 and ALSA not working :(

Hi,

I'm kinda new to linux and just finished installing Gentoo on my brand new computer. With still few problems left (mouse won't work correctly) I noticed I'm unable to get my audigy 2 to work at all even if it loads all modules correctly and such.

Here's the info for this matter:
1. I followed the ALSA Guide found in herel.
2. I use ALSA-Drivers so I deleted all but basic support for sounds from kernel.
3. I run alsaconf and it detected my soundcard (audigy 2 and some ISA pnp card).
4. I used alsamixer to increase volumes on channels and unmuted them.
5. I did the same thing for KMixer.
6. I added alsasound to default runlevel.

Now everything seems to be working good exept I don't hear any sounds from my speakers.

Sound hardware:
-Audigy 2
-DFI LANPARTY motherboards integrated soundcard (not used)[not sure which drivers to use in here]

One thing I haven't tried yet is to disable the integrated sounds from BIOS. That should make things little easier. Also the speakers are connected correctly as I have dual-boot with XP where the sounds work perfectly and also I have tried with other distros like SuSE which detected and configured my card automatically so no problem there.

Is there anything else I should check or conf or do something to get the sounds to work.

your new, and starting with 'gentoo'??

i think you already may have answered your question with the other snd card.

also don't over look the newest drivers.

good luck.. and 'learn' linux first, before you start on a project like that, it will make it easier and better to learn things.

I have tried several other distros like SuSE, ubuntu, red hat and debian but not very throughly. Gentoo seems nice but the basic adjustments are kinda kinky. Been using SuSE 10.0 for a while but that doesn't teach much about linux as it makes almost all things automatically unlike gentoo.

I noticed that audigy works with "aplay somewav.wav" and MPlayer works on KDE. If I try Amarok or ksCD it doesn't play anything. They don't use ALSA drivers but something else?

I have disabled arts from my USE flags (gentoo thingy) according to some gentoo intallation guide and I'm not sure is it just that what's causing all the trouble. Not sure what the arts is exactly.... some multimedia thingy according their webpage.

you want to leave as many sound server (protocols) in as possible, this way when programs need them, they can call them up.

they don't *normally* bother anything, and when they do you can adjust things accordingly.

arts is mostly for kde, but if you use gnome, and have kde-base installed, arts will allow you to hear systems sounds, when kde programs are running--sooo it's preddy cool in that respect.

if arts is interfering with any other sounds, you can adjust it from kcontrol-- by changing the time it should take for it (arts) to 'shut down' after playing something.

especially don't overlook 'oss'.. it is an oldie but a goodie for playing most programs (mplayer, xine, xmms, etc).

again, good luck and let us know how it goes.

Sorry to bumb into this thread, I already opened my own topic on more or less the same topic yesterday but I also have some issues with my Audigy 2 6.1 (Dell OEM version) as it only plays 5.1 sound and not 6.1.

Any help is much appreciated.

Okay, got the amarok to work after remmerging it. KsCD still doesn't work but I rarely use listen to CD:s but still it ought to work but I'm getting there.
