ATX_12V_2X and PCI_EXPRESS_16 power leads
Hi, all.

I'm putting together a new system, with a Gigabyte P35-DS3P motherboard in
a full tower case.

I've just noticed that the ATX_12V_2X cable from the PSU is too short
(at 53.5cm) to reach. It would need to be around 15cm longer to
comfortably reach without hindering air flow or access to other components.

This is a PSU with "modular" leads, i.e. the lead in question
connects to a socket on the PSU.

So the question is, is it worth trying to buy a longer lead, or can I get
buy without? The CPU is an Intel Q6600, the PSU is a Thermaltake
W0106RU (rated 700W).

Also, for a single video card in a PCI Express 16X slot, do I really need
the extra power lead which seems to go from the PSU to a 4-pin molex
connector on the motherboard? Or the lead which would go from the PSU
direct to the video card edge connector (requiring an adaptor)?

Am I right in thinking that these two leads are only necessary when two
cards are present in an SLI setup?

A cable that is 53 cm or close to two feet is long enough even for full ATX chassis. Any longer will reduce the voltage thereby making the computer consume more current to compensate. If the on-board power supply on the motherboard consumes more current, the cable from the main power supply will get hotter. I do not recommend extension cable because the wires will get hotter. I suggest do what you got.

If the video card in question has four or six headers, you have to connect it to the power supply or else the computer will beep or will not show the video. Motherboards can only provide about 75 watts (I think) to a video card, so a video card consuming more than that needs extra power.

Creates account, posts 3 threads with ~seemingly~ legitimate questions (cut and pasted from another thread). Mods profile to include spam links in his sig. Posts 4th thread in general, obvious Spam.

I'm waiting for a few things to happen.

1) Bozo responds to let us know these are honest questions from someone honestly asking, kindly removes spam links from his sig.
2) Bozo does not respond, confirming he is a Spam Troll. Mods kill the account.
3) Bozo gets angry I had the temerity to call him a Spam Troll, still does not respond to any of the threads he created, nor does he participate in any legitimate forum activity, confirms he is a Spam Troll. Takes longer, but Mods kill the account.

Don't feed the Troll. Nothing to see here, move along.
