Atmel USB wireless troubles

I had this going until I had to do a semi-reinstall (portage decided that I didnt need my toolchain and uninstalled it).
Unfortunately I forgot to backup my config files.

Now my wireless refuses to connect to the access point. It can see it fine and I can use it for everything except connecting to a network (scanning for networks in airsnort works fine).

Here is all the relevant info:
lsusb: Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0d5c:a002 Belkin F5D6050 802.11b Adapter

dmesg:

The access point is named AP and is on Channel 1 with no WEP.
Its MAC is 02:00:8A:22:79:03.

I plug it in, wait for it to do its thing and then I run: iwconfig wlan0 mode managed essid AP channel 1
Then it says this:
Quote:
localhost ~ # iwconfig wlan0
wlan0 IEEE 802.11-DS ESSID:"AP" Nickname:"okuwlan"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
Bit Rate:11 Mb/s Tx-Power=15 dBm
Retry limit:8 RTS thr=1536 B Fragment thr=1536 B
Encryption keyff
Power Managementff
Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
Now if I switch it in to ad-hoc mode and then back to mananged it says what I posted above. The correct MAC address is in the Access Point: bit.

I did have it showing a signal strength at one stage but it still wouldnt connect to the access point.

Does anyone know why it doesnt show any signal strength and wont connect?
I must be missing something.
