Ati Xorg.conf causing Openoffice crash

Hi,
I'm running Debian Etch with 2.6.18 kernel, a Ati Radeon X600 and the latest driver from Ati (8.31.5) , and I'm having a problem with the settings in my xorg.conf. The problem is that certain programs like Openoffice crash instantly with a "floating point error", a problem that I know for a fact is because xorg.conf dosn't have the correct settings. I know this because I've had the same problem before and fixed it by mucking about with aticonfig, but I've lost that particular working xorg.conf by accident.

acceleration works, fglrx reports "ati" not mesa - The only problem is that openoffice and totem crashes, and I know it's because I need to set something i xorg.conf - I just don't know what.

Here's my xorg.conf:
Code:

If anybody could post a copy of a working xorg.conf (one that don't cause openoffice to crash) to a x600 card, I would appreciate it.

hello,
the only differences i find between my xorg.conf and mine are these lines:
Code:
Option "VideoOverlay" "on"
Option "UseInternalAGPGART" "no"
Option "OpenGLOverlay" "off"
Option "AGPMode" "4"
Option "AGPFastWrite" "True"
Option "EnablePageFlip" "True"
try to paste them in the "Device" section, if it does not resolve your problem, it's up to you to remove or leave them. However, i am using:
* Radeon 9600se
* Ubuntu Dapper Drake 6.06 (LTS) Linux
and OpenOffice works perfecrly

regards,
-mr

Thanks, I'll try it out. It's pretty annoying to try to guess the correct settings for my Xorg.conf. Last time I'll ever buy a Ati.

EDIT: sorry to say, the problem still persists.

Fixed.

I managed to figure out what setting I needed; However, it worked only after I uninstalled the driver and removed /lib/modules/fglrx then reinstalled.

Below is my xorg.conf. Without the setting Option "DesktopSetup" "mirror" Openoffice and totem won't run.
Code:
# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

If some poor soul happens to stumble upon this thread having the same problems as I did, I hope the above will be of some help. As of Ati's latest driver (8.31.5 and apparently some versions below this one)option "DesktopSetup" "mirror" seems to be necessary to get my X600 to play nice with openoffice.

All in all, I curse the day I bought that Ati trash. It have brought me nothing but pain, tears and sadness.
