ATI x200 mobility on debian 3.0r5

I'm trying to install debian on my notebook to dual boot with xp. Everything went pretty well with the install, but when I try to run startx I get an error (Im not home now, so I don't have the output, sorry) i reran the x86cfg file to reconfigure X, choosing different ati drivers, but that didn't help any. I tried installing the linux drivers for the chipset from ATI's site, but after the file was uncompressed, it deletes the folder it makes, so I'm guessing there was some sort of error in the installation ruitine. I read somewhere that using the vesa driver could help get it up and running initially, but I'm not exactly sure how to do that. If anyone has any tips please let me know.

Thanks,
maybbach

Try using the vesa driver that will get you a gui until you figure out ATI's driver.
