Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question ATI X1650 Pro fun continued

I have been trying to install the drivers for my ATI manually. I've been following the steps on the link http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu...allation_Guide but I get an error when trying to use the command gksu gedit /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common The error is (gksu :6950) Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display I am not sure if this error deals with the gksu or something else. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah its a ton of fun trying to get the ATI drivers to work right. I had to swap back and forth between two monitors because flgrx wouldn't support my dvi input. Finally got it working after about 8 hours of frustration. To me it sounds like you don't have adequte rights to run the program, try adding your username to the sudoers list.
