What do you mean by drivers. If you are running in text mode then you do not need any specific drivers.

Do you mean to get a GUI like in windows? If so you need X and some sort of window manager/desktop.

:)

(slow down this is not paid instant support)

Yes i am running an X windows terminal using KDE,,,, i had the same problem before running Slackware 9.1 but that was on a pc this Yellow Dog set up is for an Apple Powerbook G3 Pismo PLUS its an ATI graphics card so i am at a loss

Which X are you using?

golan69 04-23-2005 04:42 PM

i am using the default setup in yellowdog with a KDE X Windows running kernel 2.6

The yellow dog website says that you should be running Xorg-x11r6.6.
Which is here http://www.x.org. I also found this on that site http://www.x.org/X11R6.8.2/doc/ati.html

Read, digest and play.

Xorg comes with drivers for ATI Rage 128 cards. I pretty sure that only the newest Nvidia and ATI cards come with seperate drivers, but even those have a version in Xorg.
Quit X, and run xorgconfig from the command line.
Answer the question that it asks, then it will come to a point where it asks if you want to view the card database, say yes and look for your card in it.

how do i just quit x because i have it set up to where X automaticly sttarts when the computer starts,, this was done like that by the setup of yellow dog if i goto log out of X it only gives me options to shutdown or reboot so how do i log into just a plain linix console?

OK,
Press Ctrl+Alt+Fn

Where Fn is F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6

Now depending how it is all set up it is probably going to be F1 or F2. this will bring you to a virtual terminal, it will display a logon prompt, logon as root, and then on the command prompt type 'telinit 3'
It will then say something like 'INIT: switching to runlevel: 3'
And may be a few other lines.
After that you should be back at the command prompt. There type 'xorgconfig' and follow the questions

I suggest you read something like this http://freshmeat.net/redir/rute/9186/url_homepage/rute.2038bug.com either before you try this or at least some time soon.

Have fun
:)
