ati radeon problem under Redhat 9

I have ati radeon 9600 xt graphics card on my redhat(9) system. With the default vesa driver X11 is working but not at more than 50 hz. What I want is just to have a system working at 85 hz min.
fglrx driver package just works fine with mandrake linux but when I install it on redhat system and adjust the same configuration X11 cannot initiate properly.A black screen appears.

Can anybody show me a way to get rid of this problem??
