ATI radeon mobility driver for suse 11.3

Hi all,

I just bought dell inspiron 14R laptop which has dual grahics processor - intel and ati 6000 HD series. Probably the 6270?

Works fine in ubuntu 11.04, but not with suse 11.3, cannot even get full resolution.

I have found this from radeon website:

ati-driver-installer-11-9-x86.x86_64.run

and with it created this:

fglrx_xpic_SUSE113-8.892-1.i586.rpm

Is this the right way supposed to instal the driver, should I push through and instal this .rpm now?

Googling this issue, it seems there may
be a problem with suse support for ATI graphics?

will SUSE 11.4 auto instal a decent driver?

If not what other distros are "good to go" for ATI?

thanks,

Andrew

most actual rpms for openSuse can be found here
http://linux.ioda.net/mirror/ati/

best infos I have found about ati on openSuse is here
http://www.sebastian-siebert.de/cate...pensuse-linux/
its german, but maybe with a translation tool readable also in other languages

about dual graphic card, I do not know if this works, I have deactivated my intel card, if you have success with openSuse pleas share your knowledge

Thanks A4Z,

I found a repository with radeon drivers and installed under 11.3, but system wouldn't reboot. So went up to suse 11.4. Many problems fixed, including (apparently) graphics functionality which now (at least) supports the full screeen res, and movies look right.

Does not mean it is "fixed", yet.

Will update if there is still more probs. I have noted the mirror you recommended.

Thanks again.

Regards...

Andrew.
