ATI Radeon Dual Monitor Setup on Ubuntu 8.10
 

I've installed the latest fglrx envy driver for my Radeon 2400 graphics card and it works great. Only problem is I can't get dual monitors working. When ubuntu tries to detect the monitors it only sees one and both screens mirror the same thing.

How do I get both working?

ive got the same problem , i can use dual monitor support with the free drivers, but when i use the proprietry ones it only detects one screen and gives cloned output. I tried using amdccle to set up dual displays, but both my monitors have different resoulutions and it dosent seem to work. Looks like i have to choose between hardware acceleration and dual monitors :(

Yep thats the exact same problem. The free drivers don't give me compiz though which is a really bummer.

hi, i was having the same problem and i ended up installing the ati catalyst control center from the repositories, after that you can configure it to do prety much whatever you want, in a really easy grafical way. hope it helps.

Do you have two monitors with different resolutions? I installed the latest ATI Catalyst control center, but it doesn't give any option for setting up two monitors with separate resolutions. One is a wide-screen and the other is a traditional 4:3 aspect ratio monitor. The Linux ATI Catalyst Control Center seems to assume that you have dual monitors of the same size and resolution, and just creates a pseudo display that stretches across them both. KDE (or is it X?) sees just one big display.

Did you find a way to get around this?

I don't have diferent resolutions so the big-desktop works fine for me. i did a little digging and this is the best that came up: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=221174
it seems you'll have to choose between 3D rendering or dual monitors working fine...
