ATI radeon driver...finally solved.

Hello all. Just posting this in case it helps anyone.

I've struggled with the radeon (ati radeon 9550) drives with box suse and debian for a LONG time. Fglrxinfo would always show mesa indirect and glxgears would give ~200FPS.

I decided to try changing bit depth to 16 from 24...voila. On both debian and suse i now have about ~2000-2200 FPS.

I looked around and found that apparently 24 bit depth is not supported by some cards yet with the ati drivers. Hope that helps someone.

Hmmm! Helped me somewhat, and I'm not even using the ATI drivers. They're not available yet for my 64-bit Xorg 6.9. I'm using Xorg's ati driver, and the fps on glxgears went from 540 to 670 ... Still not where it should be, but every little bit helps, and I can't see any difference in the 16-bit color, either.

glad..

Glad to help a little. I can see little to now difference in the color.

Also, changing priority can help as well. But then you have to run as root.
