ATI Radeon 9700 cant set 60Hz

hi there,

i have an ATI Radeon 9700 non-pro graphic card and a samsung syncmaster 171s. in the monitor manual it says that it is advisable to use only a refresh rate of 60Hz. well, after installing the latest ati drivers it remains on the 75Hz no matter how i configure using the fglrxconfig program. does any one know how to change this? is there ok to remain at 75Hz?

EDIT: i want to continue if possible with a resolution of 1280x1024

thanks.

You could try the xf86config and after that running fglrxconfig again. However, I have the same problem; neither of these programs get my refresh rate from 75 hz to 60 hz, no matter how many times I tell them that the monitor could only do 60 hz at maximum (well it can do 75 hz very well, but just fooling them).

In XF86Config file the modelines that are first in line are used first then it goes down the list. Disable the lines in the XF86Config that begin with modeline by placing # at the beginning of the line. Then run the program again. You can manually enter in a modeline. Go to http://xtiming.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/xtiming.pl and enter the specs of your monitor. It will generate a line. Copy the modeline and paste it in your XF86Config file.
