ATI Radeon 9600 drivers problem
 

I have an ATI Radeon 9600. I installed the ATI drivers and the module is loaded (i chexk with lsmod) but acceleration is nowhere. How can i enable 3d acceleration??

I get this also (may be useful)

i think that shouldnt say Mesa

From the ATI Linux driver page download the latest driver for XFree86 4.3.0 and install it
then :

As root run the following commands:

cd /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod
./make.sh
cd /lib/modules/fglrx
./make_install.sh
fglrxconfig

After completing your X configuration using fglrxconfig, press CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE to restart X.

I have a Radeon 9600pro and am also having problems so instead of starting a new thread i'll post here. Sry i can't help you out because i can't even get that far here's where i am, I'm running XFree86 Version 4.3.0 (Red Hat Linux 9 release: 4.3.0-2.90.55)

Is this ^ a common problem? When i try to install it says package already installed. when i try to uninstall it says package isn't installed yet. What the fuck is going on here.

Had the same problem and could resolve it by (re)moving the MESA (Software) OpenGL library, located in:

/usr/lib/libGL.so.1.5.060000 ('some' version number). When this library and a corresponding soft-link are in place, XFRee86 uses software 3D rendering instead of the ATI hardware rendering. If you've correctly configured the XF86Config file and remove the mentioned library hardware accelleration should work!

ch4s3r: use the --force option when installing the rpms. As far as I know, everyone gets that problem.

should I remove the glib library before or after i try to install the new drivers??

I wouldn't remove the glib library at all.

Ooh, that's looking a little fubar. I don't know what your problem is, you need someone who knows more than me, sorry.

On edit: one thing I did notice: you are doing rpm --force -Uvh ... Shouldn't that be rpm --force -ivh ... ? U means upgrade, but I think you need to do i for install.

same thing happened when i tried the -ivh --force

In that case you need a better guide than me.

Do you have the kernel sources installed? These are needed for proper ATI driver compilation/configuration/etc...

(kernel-2.4/6.x.src.rpm something..)

ok went and found the kernel sources installed the driver, graphics are insane. Thank you to everyone for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE LINUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I have been having the same problem.

I have followed the steps above...

#rpm -i --force <packagename>

that failed so I had to manually compile the kernel module etc... that all went ok...

but when I run fglrxinfo, it still displays...

I am not sure why after I have reconfigure the XFree86 config file and restarted the server, that it it still shows up as this.

I am also running RH9, radeon 9600 xt, amd athlon 2800, and asus nforce 2 motherboard (the exact model escapes me right now).

any help would be greatly appreciated.

This guide gives you good info. on installing these drivers. It also gives you a download called check.sh, which allows you to check for the proper ati driver package to download.
