Well....it crashed at 2:00am in the morning....I've tried to repair it until 6:00am. After that, i saved all waht i could in windows partition (9mb left...) and format all. The go to the universuty and now, since 14:30 compiling.....with a lot of errors....
I haven't sleep today, but for my balls this kernel will work.
Well, now all works fucking good!! (or almost all)
It took me so long because when i reinstaled, i gave a try to ext3 (before i was with ext2). But when i recompiled the kernel, i got a very big error (kernel panic!) that the kernel could not initialize the HDD....OK, let's boot with the old kernel (for this reason is advisable to save it). Ok, i have ext3 as a module.....I will put it inside the kernel....let's try. Now i can boot, but i have an error that tells me: ext3.o was compiled with kernel 2.4.20-99 and this is kernel 2.4.22 (so what!!!). OK...i've been looking throug the kernel, compiled several times more, but this error persists....As long as i can boot the kernel, this error can go to hell.
Of course i prefere to compile!!! I will have a lot of night to rest
Don't think I've forgot you, but the guy who's downloading the images for me gives me the 3rd one in the next 2 or 3 days.
Then I think I'll give ext3 a try.
It's been a long time without any news from you!! Are all ok?? Hope to know so....
Ex3 works quite good with me, but i have some little issues with the kernel (never mind), and everything is beatiful again (but the fact that my girlfriend broke with me after 5 years together, but this is another story...). So, summing up, you'll get that dammed ATI card work on linux, SURE!!!!
so, did you got it work. if not so, try me.
First you have to compile /dev/agpgart as module and other Radeon support as modules too. But except it you are using an NFORCE compile the support as * or buildin. But don't you dare to include DRM which will make you ever going to get 3d. SO, just disable it. Then install ati's driver. use external agpgart. then add "/sbin/modprobe agpgart" and "/sbin/modprobe fglrx" to /etc/modules.conf file.
ok thanks for your answers. I installed RedHat 9. It's a little bit different to SuSE (a little bit harder) but I think I can manage that. Now I'll install the new kernel.
@Hammet:
This time I chose ext3.
5 years is a lot of time. That's hard...
I bet you had to decide: Linux or your girlfriend!
Sorry, very bad joke...
But why?
@tricky_linux:
I'll try now. I hope I'll get it work as fast as possible. My anger 'bout windows and m$ gets more and more, and I wanna play tuxracer
Not to disappoint you, but just want to say that i don't think the version which come with Red Hat Linux 9.0 was the full version. I been play it. But after the First Cup. YOu can't chose others to play.
Anyway, i you have further questions regarding your vido card. Just post dmesg and i will solve it for you.
I tried SuSE again (wanna learn RedHat later) and tried to recompile again. And -wow- no errors while compiling. After making a new entry in my config file for grub i tried to boot and fot a message "Kernel Panic" and something with ReiserFS...
And I think I know the EXACT problem why ATi's don't work on Linux!
At the pre-installed kernel modules are disabled. After re-compiling you have them enabled. That's it (i think so. I'm a newbie, but it sound right for me).
