You got that error on make dep? or on make bzImage?
Try to disabable all the block devices you SURELY know you don't need and try again.
If does not work:
Try enter again in the kernel directory and do "make distclean" and do all the steps again (distclean will erase all your config saved on the new kernel).
If this still doesn't work, delete the directory and descompress it again and do it all again (yes, it's boring....)
And if this doesn't work neither.....Holy shit! i'm out of ideas! LOL. Try to get another kernel source....I have 2.4.21 with RH9 and i have no problem, but i think is better if you can get 2.4.23 or something like that.
Got it on make dep.
And en-/disabling didn't do anything...
OK I'll try.
It really sux.
2.4.23 is out? 2.4.22 was the latest stable I was able to find on kernel.org!
Yeah it's boring... very boooooring...
If I'll stay this, I'll need a good doctor...
OK, i don't know which is the latest stable version....
What really can't understand is why with one kernel everything is ok, and when you try to compile another one with EXACTLY the same options, doesn't work....That's why i have quit Mandrake....
There's a README on DAC960....maybe you should read it. It is located in /Documentation/README.DAC960 inside the kernel directory.
If you stay this, i will invite you to a beer and have relax
And now the MEGA-BIG-GIGA-LOOOL!!!
I tried make dep in my old (current) directory, just to see if there are errors, and SHIT THERE ARE! There are the same as in .22!
It's so funny...
Probably, in ten years, when my card probably works, we can play tuxracer and look who gets better times =)
HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!! And how the hell Suse has accomplished to compile a kernel with failed dependencies?¿?¿?¿
Try to run "make -i bzImage" or "make -k bzImage" or both flags at the same time. The -i flag indicates not to stop even if there are some errors....and -k means that it will keep going compiling even if some objectives are not build. Maybe it will work, who knows....
I will pray that it will work....
BTW, have you though of changing distro?? When i had Mandrake 9.0 i was totally unable to recompile a kernel....Maybe you should give a try....
I think this guys at SuSE are idiots. I uninstalled the AMD optimized Kernel and installed the Standart-Kernel (from the DVD). This can be done by RPMs in the YAST. Very easy.
And this "NEW, CLEAN" Kernel (2.4.20) makes this nonsense too...
So I will try the -i parameters.
I did such actions before on another machine, with a nvidia board.
Result: Tuxracer said "No 3D Card", but after starting OpenGL wokrd fine
I'll pray too.
Yeah, I thougt about it several times. I also had Mandrake before, and then I recognized that some packages don't work like they should...
So I changed to SuSE. And what's next? Slackware? RedHat? Debian?
In 2004 I'll have all distros testet
For me works perfectly....Although at the beginning was taugh to get the video card run in 3D, now is great!
Another big advantatge is the Debian-style apt-get, also with a GUI, so download new pakages is quite more simple, cause apt-get know all the dependencies you need and download and install them.
While with MDK was really painful to do anything, with RH had no problem, i think is quite better than MDK, but never tried SuSE, but for these posts....i think is quite the same as MDK.
I really recommend you to download the ISOs (there are 3).
Hope to know with RH you'll manage to get 3D work.
So I will download RedHat.
SuSE is lots better than Mandrake, but not good enough (as we could see).
I'll write again when I have downloaded and installed Mandrake.
Thanks,
Wolfgang
PS: I think I'll stay at this Linux forum, it's not german but I think I can manage to write english so that the others can understand it
Unfortunately, yesterday my KDE crashed, and i hade to format all >_<.
Now i'm having a battle with the kernel 2.4.22, the son of a b***h doesn't compile...
