ATI Radeon 9000, fglrx, ... ARRRGGGHHH!!!
Hi to everyone!
I'm having lots of problem trying to configure ATI Radeon 9000 with Slackware 10 (full cd installation/no upgrades). I read most of the posts on this subject, but everything i found seemed not to work properly. Well... nothing ever worked at all!! Going with order: 1. tried installing ati fglrx.4.3.11.1 for XFree86 (someone said it would work with xorg), checked all suggestions in the forum, configured fglrx and started X: glxinfo said Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0 Direct Rendering: NO so tried renaming XFree86Config-4 to xorg.conf, as suggested, but everything got messed up and X failed to load (it fails to read symbols somewhere i can't remember/if useful i will post it exactly later on). even i tried to link XFree86Config-4 to xorg.conf but got same problem. 2. Tried installing XFree "DRI" from dri.souceforge.org, Snapshot for ati r200 chip based and common Snapshot. In this case i managed to install common drivers but failed to install r200 (error: Can't compile image kernel / something like this). I'm sorry all this seems a little confused (probably i am too). If helpful, i will post all error messages later on (i don't have them now....) Can anyone help me? thanks zZ |
I have the same card, here is my only tip, it worked for me and it was not in the list of things you say you have tried. As root do:
xf86cfg set the horz. syn and ver syn rates for me this was 31-48 and 50-60 so if your display is the same this may work for you as a driver pick from the dropdown list fbdv and if it looks better save it. |
Pick radeon as your driver from your drop down list. fbdv isnt that just frame buffer? Well anyways, the DRI that comes with XFree works, and if you put back xorg it should still work.
