ATI Radeon 9000+ OpenGL FIX (RESOLVED!)
I am ABLE TO PLAY "ALL" OpenGL related programs using the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro! I firmly believe I have found the fix!
The problem is a conflict with a prior install of OpenGL related software that is installed native to the Linux OS.
Enough of the talk, here's the fix!
Step 1: Assume you have a fresh install of Redhat 9 installing now. Ensure you are using Vesa Drivers (Generic), not the native Radeon Drivers that come with the CD's.
Step 2: Assuming you have completed the install and are now logged in the X Windows as root, hit <Alt> + <Ctrl> + <F1>. Log in as root again.
Step 3: Go to /etc/X11. Type cp XF86Config-4 XF86Config-4.backup
Step 4: Delete XF86Config-4
Step 5: Type "ps -A" (cap sensitive) and look for the process # of X. Then type kill (the process # of X)
Step 6: Wait, then you will get a graphic alert telling you about the changes and problems with X, cancel all of it.
Step 7: You should be back on the command prompt, type "rpm -e --nodeps XFree86-Mesa-libGL-4.3.0-2.rpm" NOTE: This is the largest of all conflicts causing lack of compatibility with ATI users. You do not need this package since the drivers come with there own OpenGL software.
Step 8: Assuming you have the ATI Linux Drivers at /root, type "rpm -Uhv fglrx-4.3.0-3.7.6.i386.rpm" (it will be successfully).
Step 9: After typing fglrxconfig, one of the steps provides 3 options; option 2 being compatibility mode for programs such as Winex, etc, etc. Choose this option.
Step 10: Type "startx"
(Optional Step: If you get some wield error about a PCI and 0:1, use vi /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. Find the section that has 1:0:1 and change it to 1:0:0
Step 11: There is no step 11 fool, your done, it works!
