ATI Radeon 7500 (pci)
 

Well, Im using windows, and one day im just like "ahh what the hell, im sick of Cygwin... lets install Lunix!"

So, I go to install RedHat 7.3... CDs were all skratchy, so I got me a copy of 8... It installs, but the screen is all gammbeled up after it starts up... so, i decide, fsck it, im downloading 9.0...

Installs fine... but when it starts up, goes thru all the activating services [ OK ] things... then when it should go to the login screen it goes blue and has some gummed up writing and then "[ YES ] [ NO ]" button at the bottom... so I just kinda sit there at the screen going :scratch:

I click [YES], i think it goes into the text-mode linux... then if you hit NO it displays this big error, something with the XFree86 thing, and then goes back to the [YES] [NO] thing and no matter what you press it goes into the text mode...

Well, I figger out that its prolly got somethin to do with my grafix card... my Radeon 7500 PCI card... I restart compoopter, set BIOS to use the onboard display, and lunix works great...

Ive googled this many times, still cant find any answers...

So, if anyone knows how to get this freeeakin thing to work... any help would be GREATLY appreciated... Thnaks!!

well, what is the error you get when you wanna select no? by the way, you could try to start xfree manually by going to the konsole and typing "startx" without the quotes.

Well, I gotten it to work ONCE, but now whenever I set it to use the card, the screen says something like "sync out of range" or somewhat like that... Now I can see what the box says, first it says that it has gotten an error, and if I would like to see it... after I see it, it does the freaky 1st person talking thing and wants to know if I want it to start the configX thing, and warns me I will need the root password. So, I choose yes, it asks for password, says something about starting the config with a fresh start, and probes out the Intel810 motherboard card thing, and allows me to set the configs about it.

I can set it to the normal card, and it wroks fine, but when I set it to the Radeon 7500, the screen just kinda goes black. That would probibly be because I have the BIOS set to onboard display, so I restart computer set BIOS to PCI display, and it goes back to the out of range thing...

The config file you posted is for i810, it was created while you had your BIOS set to onboard.
You'd need to rerun the config app with the BIOS set correctly, but then again, I don't know how well those apps deal with pci cards.

Anyway, try this:
Copy/paste this as /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and give it a try.
...always backup the old one first.
