ATI - Radeon 3100HD RS780MC
Although ppl often complain about linux on Satellite, I recently bought an L350D-S5869, and only had minor problems getting it rolling with a couple of tweaks. The story's on the blog: Toshiba install.
A single problem remaining is the video driver, Fglrx will work, though it remains somewhat boggy whether or not direct rendering is operating. So I was pleased to learn of the Oct 13 release of an updated radeonhd driver that supposedly works on newer RS780 video. I compiled radeonhd with the latest tarball from freedestop.org, the one entitled v.1.2.3 and dated Oct 13. It compiled and installed successfully. However, once installed and configured (eg. changes are required in xorg.conf), radeonhd couldn't find my card in spite of otherwise loading well. This was both with Option HPD attempted both "swap", and "off". I then looked in /var/log/Xorg.0.log and was surprised to see, in part:
Code:
(II) RADEONHD: version 1.2.1, built from dist of git branch master, commit 761940fd
Version 1.2.1. Annoying. I rechecked the tarball - it was labeled 1.2.3. So I ran the git updates to be sure, and still, it compiled to 1.2.1. Anyone else experiencing this? If you managed to get a 1.2.3 running, please post the link of your tarball or git source; the repositories I visited apparently haven't been updated. Unless it's an error or oversight on my part, it appears I should drop freedesktop.org a line next week. Thanks.
