ATI mobility radeon on c610 dell OpenGL issue

i have had marvelous success resolving issues i have had with linuxquestions.org, and i would like to thank the world...

with that out ov the way...

now that i have everything tuned up as far as my firewall/routing sound and printing.. i decided to take a break from all that and play a game...

i run slackware 10 on a dell inspiron c610 with an ATI mobility radeon graphix card

i downloaded and installed
freedroidRPG
SDL 1.2.7
SDL_image
SDL_net
SDL_mixer

when i ran the game.. i got a nasty screen.. like the 3d wasn't set up..

so i ran glxinfo |grep rendering
which returned..

oops.. too fast on the enter key..
it returned..

direct rendering : no

so i apparently don't have OpenGL configured..
does anyone know if the ATI mobility radeon is supported under the proprietary ATI driver from their website? or is that just for the high-end desktop cards?

any info would rock...
thanx.

Talking you can most definantly have dri support!

good news soylentgreen, there is a thing called dri ( direct rendering interface ) which gives you full opengl support for your card.

here are direct links to what you need:

http://www.freedesktop.org/~dri/snap...x.i386.tar.bz2

http://www.freedesktop.org/~dri/snap...x.i386.tar.bz2

make sure you extract those to DIFFERENT folders!
run the setup in common first
then run the setup in radeon
restart x ( or x.org )
and you should be good to go

(you need your kernal headers installed, there should be a pacage you can download for that..)

i get 700fps in glxgears with my igp 340m (64mb) and i get 48fps in quake 3 at 800x600 16bit color
