ATI Mobility Radeon driver for Linux?

I am running RH 7.3 on my HP pavilion ze4230 laptop. It has the ATI Mobility Radeon graphics chip. 7.3 is too old to support the chipset directly so it's using the VESA driver. Does anyone know where I can get a driver for the chipset. ATI says only the manufacturers provide mobility drivers and HP sure as hell doesn't list it. Is it as simple as upgrading Xfree86?

bump.. Still hoping someone has dealt with this chipset...

Pcghost,

I think you should upgrade the linux distro, but maybe you can find some hints on this site:

Bit dell specific, but informative.

I was able to install the ATI drivers for linux on my laptop using the above page. It didn't matter whether it's for mobility or not.

Thanks. I am downloading Red Hat 9 as we speak. I will take a look at that driver if RH9 fails to detect it properly. :-)
