ATI Mobility 9600 feat. FSC 19-2 Screen / Low Resolution

Dear Linuxer,

i'm new to Linux. Since Febrary 08 i'm a user of Ubuntu (first Gutsy, now Hardy).
After some trouble in the beginning - all was fine. Until i've started to try some configs. Well, now i've a big problem with my X-Server. And i got no backup of my old xorg.conf file.

The problem starts after using aticonfig tool.

At first i tried to set up a new ATI proprietary driver, a new compiz and sth. else. All was fine. All was working like the time before. Just one f*ckin' problem goes on my nerves.
The resolution on my external screen don't go over 1024x768 px (Fujitsu Siemens, P19-2, 19'', max. Res. 1280x102, though this adjustment works fine some time ago.
On the drop down panel is just the option to change the resultion from 320x200, 320x240, .... to 1024x768 (System->Controlls->Screen Resolution). Higher resolutions aren't shown. So i think the problem lies in xorg.conf file?! I've tried a lot. My knowledge of configure ubuntu is now at the end and i need your help!

It would be nice, if you can help me.

Thx a lot!

Regards.
sebastian
