Hello all,
I followed some of the directions upthread to install the ATI drivers on my Suse 9.2 x86_64 install. All seemed to go well with the install but after reboot I only get 640x480 as a choice for screen resolution. I tried the KDE config desktop, display, screensize and I tried to redo the fglxrconfig process and all, but no joy.
Any ideas ? ... I sure there is a simple fix, but I just cant seem to figure it out.
I would suggest that the problem you are experiencing with your game play is not with ATI. I have an ATI 9200 vid card with ATI drivers. Unreal 2003 and 2004 play fantastic. As does Enemy Territory and BZflag.
Give me more details, what drivers, which X (im using X-ORG), which linux distro. If you are using diffrent drivers than from ati`s web page give me some link, or version number. Give me something im desperate
Gentoo
Kernel 2.6.11-gentoo-r6
Xorg 6.8.2-r1
ATI 8.12.10
I also have a box with Fedora Core 3 with an ATI 9200 video card. It does not have Unreal T. Installed but does have Enemy territory and BZflag, They both work great.
The best I can do to help you find a link to some SUSE info on ATI is the link I provided you in previous post but that turned out to be a dead end for you.
It seams that you have set up ATI correctly because of your great 6000 FPS. That beats my 1100 FPS.
Mabey there are other issuses other than your ATI setup or Xorg Conf. now ? How did you install the game. Was it an rpm made for SUSE ? How well did that go ?
I wish I could be of more assistance to you but I am out of the loop when it comes to SUSE setups.

Paul,
During the fglrxconfig process there is a screen to choose what display modes will be tried. Did you select something different there or did you just select Display modes are OK?
Also can you please include a copy of your Xorg.conf, or Xfree86.conf file in your next post if you haven't yet got it working properly?

Jab - Tomazn is getting ~600 FPS, not 600 .. perhaps you could offer up how you are getting 1100FPS out of an 9200? Are you using fgl_glxgears for this figure? As I said earlier I'm getting about 650FPS out of a FireGL Z1 and the same out of a FireGL X1 as well. Perhaps the gentoo system really is that much better .. hmmmm.
Check ATI`s web site. New drivers for ATI Graphics card are out, and i must say i am surprised
By me it`s like 200% improvment in Unreal tournament 2004
Some more data for you:
glxgears:
18123 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3624.600 FPS
21112 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4222.400 FPS
21249 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4249.800 FPS
20398 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4079.600 FPS
fglrxgears:
2500 frames in 5.0 seconds = 500.000 FPS
2955 frames in 5.0 seconds = 591.000 FPS
3085 frames in 5.0 seconds = 617.000 FPS
3103 frames in 5.0 seconds = 620.600 FPS
BTW. I am running my X in 1600x1200@85hz :P
Unreal works flawless now, maybe even better than in windows
