ATI Drivers (or something) behaving strangely...

I've got a strange thing going on with my ati drivers. I modprobe fglrx, start x, and run fglrxinfo. It says I have mesa drivers. I kill x, rmmod fglrx and modprobe it again, and start x. Now, fglrxinfo says Radeon 9600 etc etc. Anyone have a similar problem, or can tell what's this all about?

Oh, yeah, this only happens once, right after linux has finished booting up.

Make sure that agpgart is loaded before you do "startx".

Ok, i've had look at the problem. It appears that it only happens the first time X is started, not the fglrx module. This means I have to restart X once every time I start linux before I can use my cards full potential.

Can this be related to me not using the external agpgart? I've got it compiled into my kernel, but every time I configure X to use the external agpgart, my entire computer locks up with a black screen. Locks up as in, have to do a hard reset, and strangely, my XF86Config-4 gets totally messed up, containing log pieces from various places and strange chars.

Anyone?

Usually agpgart gets compiled as a module. If you compile it straight into the kernel, I'm not quite sure what it would try and do, but my feeling is that it will always be used.
